Judges' Info

The United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Texas is served by two judges.
 
Chief Judge Brenda Rhoades presides in cases arising in the Sherman and Texarkana divisions. Hearings in Sherman cases are conducted in Plano. 
Judge Joshua P. Searcy presides in cases arising in the Beaumont, Lufkin, Marshall and Tyler divisions. Hearings in Marshall and Tyler cases are conducted in Tyler. Hearings in Beaumont and Lufkin cases are conducted in Beaumont or Lufkin. Parties should consult the applicable hearing notice to determine the location of hearings for cases in those divisions in any particular month.
 

Transition from Microsoft Teams to Cisco Webex

Effective Monday, June 16, 2025
The United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Texas will transition to Cisco Webex for all video and teleconference court proceedings effective Monday, June 16, 2025. 

Information on how to successfully prepare for and attend virtual Webex hearings, as well as how to submit exhibits at a virtual Webex hearing is provided in the document Virtual Hearings with Cisco's Webex.

Important Notice Regarding Telephonic Appearances
 Any party desiring to appear telephonically at an In Person Hearing must make prior arrangements with the appropriate courtroom deputy 48 hours prior to the hearing.  You will receive confirmation from the court if your request is granted.  If you do not receive confirmation from the court, you must appear in person.

For matters to be heard in Plano, all requests for telephonic appearances must be made via email at CRD_Plano@txeb.uscourts.gov.

Participants appearing telephonically without prior court approval will be subject to removal from the proceeding.
